Yesterday I was listening to the radio and the lady was talking about someone who was mischievous, and she pronounced it “miss-chee-vee-ous.” It’s not the first time I’ve heard it pronounced that way, but the last time I checked there wasn’t an “i” after the “v”. Is it me, or do a lot of people pronounce that word incorrectly?
It’s not only that word. Some of the others that are often pronounced incorrectly are Interac (adding a “t” to the end) and espresso (pronounced “expresso”). Oh, and one that I’ve even heard my university physics professor mistake (and which is very subtle) is the word nuclear, which is often pronounced “nucular.” Keep your ears open for that one. No wonder my parents used to call me Stephen White-out when I was young. Sheesh!

athlete is another one i catch people saying. they will pronounce it ath-e-lete opposed to the correct way. federal and fed-ral is another. even something as ironic as pronunciation mistakenly said pro-noun-ci-ation. could you imagine how hard english would be to lean as a second language? yikes! cheers
