After spending pretty much every day over the holidays with a lot of people, Rachel and I decided to have a date on New Year's Eve. My parents came over from Kelowna and babysat Zion while Rachel and I headed up to Silver Star to do some ice skating. When we got there we found out that there were fireworks and a light parade down the hill, and it turned out to be great. We got ourselves some hot chocolate and watched while a long line of skiers came down the mountain with lights (the kids had glo-sticks and the adults had torches). It created a "flaming line of insanity", and it was followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
After the fireworks we went to the skating rink for an hour, and I stumbled along the ice, trying to learn how to skate, while Rachel went whizzing by. I want to learn to skate by next year so that I don't have to sit out during the annual Boxing Day hockey game in Kelowna. We got home by around 10:30, and Zion was still happy and thankfully so were my parents. What a blessing they are to us, and one of the reasons that we had such a great 2005!

Some sights from New Year's Eve at Silver Star...highly recommended!
