Unofficially we set records yesterday, with downtown Vernon recording temperatures of 36 degrees. I feel that it will only get hotter this summer, so slap on your sunscreen and get ready for a scorcher. Did you know that yesterday was the the first day of summer and the longest day of the year? It is called the Summer Solstice, and even though the last Sunday in August technically has 25 hours because of daylight savings time, June 21 still has the most hours of daylight.
The plots below show how the date of the summer solstice shifts through the Gregorian calendar according to the insertion of leap years.
