Last night I got to watch some of the hottest young soccer players in Vernon in action. Braden Vanderhorst and Joseph Ross both saw their teams winning landslide victories over their opponents at the field at Seaton, and I was there to cheer them on. Also there were Kendra and Ashleigh, to cheer on the guys and to show off their mad soccer skills on the sideline (although Ashleigh doesn't like kicking the ball with the side of her foot). When I was younger, it seemed like the best way to kick the ball with a lot of power was with the toe-punt, and it made a nice thud and would sail off into the distance. I don't know why more pro soccer players don't use this move. Maybe it's because of a thing called "lack of control." But boy, did one of those toe-punts look good when it was shot into the top corner of the goal.

the only danger of the toe punt (especially with younger kids) is that sometimes the ball isn't the only thing that goes flying. also most people don't count a shoe going into the net as a goal.
