Today is the real deal, the genuine article, the holiday that we like to call St. Patrick's Day. Wear green or you will get pinched, I can guarantee it. Last year I was walking around the streets of Kelowna pinching people, and some of them were quite peeved. I mean, people, what do you expect by not wearing green on this Irish holiday? What disrepect towards St. Patrick!
Did you know that the National and Official language of Ireland is Gaelic as well as English? However, approximately 99% of the population speak English. Despite governmental efforts to rekindle interest in the Irish Language less than 5% of the population use it on a daily basis. Gaelic is obligatory in Irish schools and currently there is a renewed interest in the language.

so it's a good thing that steve didn't see me today otherwise he would have had to pinch me for not wearing green. i can't say i share the enthusiasm for the holiday. in fact i was going to wear green today (coincidence only) and stopped myself because i thought it was too predictable. maybe if i was irish i would have more spirit for the day. but i'm not. maybe if there was a dutch pride day i could bring myself to wear something to represent my heritage. hmmm wooden shoes or is that too over the top?
